2012 Spring Senior Photos

Written by Anne Pohlman on Thursday, 17 May 2012. Posted in Photography

I specialize in multiple areas of photography, including professional shots, business events, weddings, and senior photos. I'm not sure which I love doing the most, but if I had to choose one, I would choose senior photos. Throughout all the photoshoots I do every year, senior photos seem to be one of the styles I love most.

During the photoshoot, I enjoy talking with my clients about their plans following their graduation. They all have different stories about what their future plans and dreams. High school seniors are all at a point in life where they're beginning to realize they're really and truly growing up, and are about to be making all of their decisions on their own without anyone telling them what to do. I have yet to meet a senior who is not excited about this fact!

The last few months of senior year seem to always be a busy time; I know it was for me when I was a senior in high school. In order to try to avoid the last minute crunch of ending their senior year, I encourage possible clients to schedule their senior photoshoots during the summer before their senior year or during the fall of their senior year. However, I always end up scheduling a few senior photoshoots in the spring anyways. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed photographing both Ben and Tori this spring. We were quite lucky to get gorgeous weather both days, and were able to hit up a few different locations. I have included a few pictures below. I welcome any feedback or comments, as I am always trying to improve. Enjoy!

Facebook Buys Instagram for $1 Billion

Written by Ben Seidel on Friday, 13 April 2012. Posted in Photography, Marketing

But WHY would they do that?

Facebook buys InstagramOn April 10th, Facebook announced that it acquired the newly emerging Instagram. If you don't know what Instagram actually is, you're not alone. Instagram is a social media platform completely focused on sharing individual photos. You can snap a picture, apply a stylistic filter in Instagram, and instantly share it with friends and family. Also, you can easily share your photos to Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr as well. Best of all, you can do all this directly on your iPhone or Android phone using the Instagram app.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the acquisition of Instagram for roughly $1 billion, consisting of cash and stock. Mr. Zuckerberg also claimed that it would be continuing to build the Instagram app independently rather than integrating with Facebook.

So, what is Facebook getting for its $1 billion?

  • With over 30 million users on its mobile app, Facebook is buying out one of its largest competitors in the mobile realm. Though this number is still small in comparison to Facebook's membership, the mobile app world is where Facebook has a great interest in penetrating with more success.
  • For years, Facebook has been trying to motivate people to share their location and photos of what they are doing. Instagram has figured out the secret recipe, and quite frankly, Facebook wants it.
  • Facebook gets the brains behind the operation. Zuckerburg said that he was "...looking forward to working with the Instagram team, and to all of the great new experiences we're going to be able to build together." Facebook arguably wants to be the pioneer in web-based apps and feels there is a lot to learn from Instagram.

Only time will tell where the acquisition will take Instagram and what benefits will it ultimately bring to Facebook. In the meantime, do not be surprised if you see a sepia-tone picture of Instagram's founders, Kevin Systrom (CEO) and Mike Krieger sitting on a $1 billion pile of cash.

Photography for Memorial Funeral Home & Memorial Park Cemetery Staff

professional-portraitMemorial Funeral Home called a few weeks ago and asked if we could take some photos of the staff for their website. In the past, I have primarily focused on seniors and families, along with engagements, weddings, events and kids' photo shoots. Since I began working for Igniting Business, I have been looking forward to conducting more business photo shoots. I was quite happy to get this project so soon after I began working with Igniting Business!

The photo shoot itself turned out to be both pleasant and exciting! The staff that was not being photographed at the time were laughing and cracking jokes any time they walked past, making the ordeal quite enjoyable.  Even the location itself was beautiful and served as unique backdrop.  For this project, they only required upper body portraits, and I was able to frame the portraits both professionally and artistically.

Working with Memorial Funeral Home & Memorial Park Cemetery was a wonderful success! Feel free to browse our growing portfolio on the Business Photography page as well as our other photography services!
