Shopping for Technology: How to Navigate Through all the Noise

Shopping for tech this year? With so many products being advertised, searching the best product can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Although finding the best option isn't easy, here are a few reminders on how to find the best products for your business:

Be proactive

Passivity is a massive joy killer during holiday season. Take the time to write down what you want to get, and do your research. Don't simply make mental notes when you see commercials. This is very basic, but it is good repeating: only shop when you know what you are looking for. There will always be people claiming you must have their latest laptop or printer. Don't let those voices tell you what you need. You must decide that for yourself.

Be specific

Writing down "new computer" on your list won't cut it. Make an effort to write down model numbers, prices, dimensions, warranties, etc. It's okay to be picky. You will find your shopping experience more fruitful when you have those specifics figured out before you go on the hunt for deals.

Be patient

Good things come to those who wait. There's no need to buy right away. Buyer self-control will be your friend in the upcoming months (and probably your whole life). Make your shopping list for the season, do your research, and wait for that exact product to drop in price.

There is no guarantee that you will get what you want, so make sure you're prepared to leave the store empty-handed. If nothing on your list of items comes within your budget, it's alright. Since you have done your research and you know exactly what you want, you will ultimately be more satisfied if you wait for it. As a side note, I would suggest doing small things for clients. Make it something unexpected. The busy holiday season is much more enjoyable when you can share it with others and think outside of your own business and life.
